Subject: March/April term CANCELLED. FULL CREDIT provided.
To all students who enrolled in the March/April term:
We appreciate your understanding of the difficult position we all find ourselves in. We are all in uncharted waters with rapidly shifting currents. The coronavirus makes decision-making challenging, both from an ethical and a business perspective.
As more information has become available, it has become clear to us that we cannot continue the current term which had started and which abruptly ended two weeks into the term. Unfortunately, there is work under plastic and “in the pipeline” of bisque firing and glazing and there is clay on everyone’s shelves. We considered an option where you would be able to come-in and trim work under plastic, but the logistics of social distancing make this option unfeasible.
After consideration of various options, we have decided to CANCEL this term and provide FULL CREDIT toward a new class.
Terms: All work that was trimmed has been bisque fired and can be picked up (details below). All work under plastic will be discarded. Clay on your shelves will be removed and becomes the property of Fireborn Studios. Glazed pots were fired on March 10 and can be picked up (details below).
You get full credit toward a future 8-week class. Credit is not transferable and expires on December 31, 2021.
Due to the way our system of inventory and enrollment works, when you register for a new class, you will need to put down a $100 deposit and write Covid-19 in the special box. We will refund the deposit after the class begins.
Picking up work and staying safe:
You may pick up work any Wednesday or Saturday, starting Wednesday, April 1 through April 25 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Someone will be at the building to let you in. Upon arrival, please go to the side door and ring the bell. There will be sanitizer at the door, or you may wash your hands at the studio sink. We will supply blue protective gloves if you want to wear them. Please supply your own mask if you have one.
All work will be sorted by class symbol. Glazed ware will be in the glaze room or by the washing machine. Bisque ware is upstairs on the regular shelves and old bisqueware by the washing machine. Please bring your own paper and boxes, if possible.
If you are showing any symptoms or think you may have been exposed, please do not come in. You may contact us if illness or your health condition prevents you from picking up your work. Likewise, please contact us if you have any questions about this email.
Any work not picked up by April 25, 2020 will be discarded.
In Conclusion: We are trying to do our best given the situation. This decision applies to the current term (March/April 2020) only. We will deal with next term (the one that begins April 27) later when we have more information.
We miss you all and hope that you and your loved ones stay safe through this pandemic. We look forward to being able to get back to socializing and offering classes as soon as safely possible.
