Workshop - Critique Session

hosted By Daniel Vito
What is a good pot? Is it an objective or subjective Decision?

Daniel Vito will lead a discussion on approaches to pottery design, focusing on form, function and decoration.

The intended outcome of this workshop is for you to be better able to analyze pottery in general, your pottery in particular, build a vocabulary and rationale for critiquing your work and others, develop a clearer understanding of your own aesthetic, and move toward finding and express your own individual artistic voice.

Preparation for the workshop.

  1. Gather up to eight pots to bring to the workshop. They can be either made by you or pots you own and like.
  2. Go online and harvest images of pots you like, or links to web pages of pots you like. Be ready to share the by showing them on your phone, computer, or paper, so they can be discussed, analyzed and critiqued. They will be easier to share on a laptop than a phone. You can search individual potters websites, instagram pages, museum collections, YouTube videos, etc.
