adding value to your pots

Presented by Daniel Vito
How can you add Value to your pots?

There are many simple and easy things you can do to a thrown form to make it more interesting, and also many ways to throw more interesting forms to begin with. First and second term students, as well as advanced students will benefit from this.

This workshop is offered several times a year and we strongly encourage as many Fireborn students to attend as possible. We will cover tips and tricks that will take your work to the next level, and every repetition of the workshop will be different.

We will discuss and look at examples of lip treatment, faceting, fluting, distortion, surface markings, altering, decoration, attachments, glazing, underglaze transfers, etc. Many techniques will be demonstrated. The intent of this workshop is for you to get ideas, get inspired, and learn some techniques.

Preparation for the workshop.

  1. If you have pots you are particularly fond of, made by you or others, bring in up to four of them.
  2. Go online and harvest images of pots you like, or links to web pages of pots you like. Be ready to share them by showing them on your phone, computer, or paper, so they can be discussed, analyzed and critiqued. They will be easier to share on a laptop than a phone. You can search individual potter’s websites, instagram pages, museum collections, YouTube videos, etc.
